The 2024 Hackathon was a huge success!
This year's Waikato Hackathon event saw 17 participants across four teams developing a range of innovative AI solutions to real world environmental problems.
Team Gallagher were the winning team with their project Recraft AI: Turning Commercial Waste into Community Treasure which proposed a system to reduce and upcycle construction waste through community-led initiatives.
Other standout ideas included tools for mental wellness check-ins designed to support at-risk communities. 🏆
Led by the AI Forum, this year’s theme centred on strengthening partnerships between industry, professionals, and the community which brought to the forefront a powerful reminder that innovation thrives when we work together.
🤖 AI was front and centre, with agentic systems and large language models (LLMs) featured in many of the solutions, showing how emerging tech can be harnessed for real-world impact.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and supported the event.
